2013 | What a Year!!! | Wedding Photographer
Well what can I say, 2013 has been absolutely, mind blowingly INCREDIBLE, to think how much my business has grown honestly just leaves me speechless. At the beginning of the year, I had only a handful of weddings booked. I went on Lisa Devlin’s Photography Farm course with Melissa Love for my branding and website, then on a Day with Brooke Davis for shooting and ‘finding your voice’. These two courses were massive for me, Meeting with new photographers, ones who I’d followed for a couple of years, then to be sat next to them, and be taught by them was really eye opening for me. Not only did it make me rethink the way I was approaching my shooting, and my couples, I also had the confidence to start and redesign my website exactly the way I wanted it. I have taken part in a LOT of CreativeLive Course Online, on absolutely anything to do with Photography, it is an INCREDIBLE platform and I have learned so much to do with business and marketing from here. The one that really stands out is, Jasamine Star’s Restart course on CreativeLive between January and March, I even had my website featured as a before and after for branding and style… those 5 seconds my website design was up there for the world to see :-p gotta love 5 seconds of fame! I then began to look at my marketing as a business, and the more I could see that my hard work was making a difference, actually reaching the “right” couples, the harder I worked!!! In March I organised a styles shoot and was super lucky to work with Naomi Neoh Dresses. Seeing my ideas on paper and in my head become a reality was really incredible and again pushed me to work harder as I could see things finally coming together. Over 7 months of 2013 I shot 26 Weddings and 28 Engagement Sessions, a Newborn Session and a handful of Family Sessions. With every couple I met, I could feel my passion growing stronger and I left my day job to pursue this… my dream career in April 2013, I haven’t looked back! I have been traveling all over England (and I even went to Italy!) to meet wonderful people, and not only share in the happiest days of their lives, but to be able to give them photos which allows them to relive those days over and over, well It’s truly amazing. I have the best job!!! Over Summer last year I was literally non stop, travelling, editing, photographing, emailing, barely having anytime to stop to take it all in and now I’m writing this post I am filled with such a sense of contentment. I love my life, and I love my work… what more could anyone want! I have met so many wonderful people… friends and I am so excited to see how they grow. Back in May I heard that one of my couples from 2012 were expecting. I was one of the first people that got to see baby Max and get some beautiful photos of him for them, we are planning another family session in the summer and I can’t wait to watch him grown up! I think one of my favourite things about being a Wedding Photographer is getting to see all these beautiful places that, unless you were going to a wedding you just wouldn’t see. It has made me open my eyes to How Beautiful England Really Is. The biggest decision I made last year was going on Marrianne Taylor’s Mnoo School in October, we had Ed Peers as a guest speaker and I did NOT expect to come home literally buzzing for the following month. I took so many notes and I make sure I flick through them every now and then to remember how those two days made me feel. As I’m finally wrapping up 2013 I’m feeling thankful for making so many new friends, my amazing couples and so many creative people in the industry. They all push me to be better and I cannot WAIT to see what 2014 brings. The constant thing throughout everything, no matter where I am, no matter how much work I have on, my amazing Greg has just been a constant support throughout the whole year and without knowing he’s another reason I want to be better… You never stop learning and never intend to STOP! I am super happy to say that at some point in the coming year he will have alot more to do with Photography By Vicki… so you’ll just have to WATCH THIS SPACE. Also, my amazing Family and Friends… attending weddings this year, and constantly spending time with people who are madly in love, makes me love and appreciate them more and more everyday!
Ok, So what does 2014 have in store for me…. Well, it’s the beginning of what is going to be a VERY exciting & busy year. I have 50 weddings booked in, a LOAD of Engagement Session. Next week Greg and I will be putting ourselves in my couples shoes… We are going to photographed by Brooke Davis, we are both nervous (and excited) and I think this is a must for us, I want to understand how my couples feel when they are being photographed and how to get the very best out of them. Every couple feels nervous about having their photos taken (EVEN WE ARE!) Unless we are models, no one knows how to “be” infront of the camera, which is why the Engagement Session are just perfect to get some beautiful photos before the wedding, and also to practice to feel relaxed in front of the camera before the big day! (I went of at a tangent there…er… woops! back to what 2014 will bring) I’M GOING TO LEARN TO DRIVE! I’m off to Photography Farm again for a course with Joanna Brown. I’m currently doing a course to become a Beloved Photographer which I already started implementing at the end of 2013 and can’t wait to see the results this technique gives me. Will be doing a lot of “lunches” with the lovely wedding photographer friends I’ve made in the past year, which is amazing to talk about our photography, businesses and the things we love. At the end of March, both me and Greg will be attending Emma Case’s Welcome Home Workshop in London, which all I can say is once our places were booked I did a little bit of jumping up and down (I’m a little bit excited!) ! There will be a “new look” website coming very soon which I have been working on in my spare time for the past couple of months. I am going to meet so many amazing people this year, and can’t wait see old faces again! I’m going to stop waffleing now and wind up (though I really could write for days about what 2013 has meant for me!).
Here is what I have been up to in 2013… prepare yourself for a lotta love!!!
2013 you have been AMAZING now Bring on the even more EXCITING 2014!!!!
